Our pets spend their whole day surrounded by the things we choose for them: beds, scratchers, toys and grooming tools. Picking natural materials like wood, bamboo, sisal and cardboard is an easy way to cut down on plastic at home – and many of these pieces look much nicer in a living room, too. Here are simple, practical ideas for cats, dogs and birds, all from our Pet Eco Products collection.
1. Give cats something better to scratch
Scratching is normal cat behavior: it keeps claws in shape and lets cats stretch. The trick is giving them a spot they like more than your sofa.
- Corrugated Cardboard Cat Scratcher ($18.99) – a simple, low-cost scratch pad made of corrugated cardboard.
- Ferris Wheel Cat Scratcher with Sisal (from $64.45) – sisal rope plus a wheel cats can turn and climb, so it doubles as a toy.
- Solid Pine Wood Cat Tree ($252.49) – four platforms for climbing, sitting and watching the room.
Tip: place a scratcher right next to the furniture your cat already scratches, then move it little by little to where you want it.
2. Choose beds made from natural materials
Woven and wooden beds give cats a sheltered spot to curl up, and breathable materials help on warm days.
- Semi-Enclosed Bamboo Cat Bed ($248.64) – handwoven from natural bamboo with a cave-like shape.
- Wooden Cat House with All-Season Cushion (from $180.33) – swap between a cool summer mat and a soft plush cushion.
- Wooden Round-Feet Cat Hammock Bed (from $53.91) – a raised camp-style bed on wooden feet.
- Semi-Enclosed Woven Cat Bed with Wooden Legs ($335.22) – rattan-style weave with a cotton mat, 42 × 42 × 45 cm.
3. Groom regularly with a wooden-handled brush
Brushing a few times a week removes loose fur before it ends up on your clothes and furniture. The Wooden Pet Deshedding Brush ($29.68) has a natural wood handle and a fine metal edge that lifts loose undercoat hair.
4. Pick natural chews and toys for dogs
The Pine Wood Dog Chew Stick ($14.92) comes in small and medium sizes. As with any chew, choose the right size for your dog and supervise chewing time.
5. Don’t forget birds and backyard flocks
- Hanging Wooden Bird House for Budgies ($22.03) – a small or large wooden nest box for an aviary or sheltered outdoor spot.
- Wooden Parrot Training Stand ($32.39) – a wooden perch platform for play and training.
- Wooden Duck House with Openable Roof ($173.06) – fir wood coop for up to three ducks, with an easy-clean removable floor.
6. Remembering a pet
When it is time to say goodbye, a natural keepsake can help. The Wooden Pet Urn ($29.77) is a half-handmade, cabin-shaped wooden box for a cat’s or dog’s ashes.
