The bathroom is one of the easiest places to start cutting plastic. Toothbrushes, razors, cotton rounds, swabs and bottles are used every day and thrown away often – so each swap you make keeps working for you, quietly, every single morning. You don’t need to change everything at once. Pick one or two items you’re about to run out of, and replace them with something made to last or to break down naturally.
Here are 12 simple swaps from our shop, grouped by routine. Prices are current at the time of writing.
Teeth: start with the item you replace most
Bamboo Toothbrush, Soft Bristles – $8.19. The classic first swap: a bamboo handle instead of a plastic one, soft nylon bristles and a non-slip grip. When it’s time to replace it, the handle is the part that stays out of the plastic bin.
Natural Bamboo Toothbrush Cup – from $18.63. A simple wooden cup (about 10 cm tall) that keeps brushes upright and looks calm on the sink. Let it dry between uses to keep the wood looking its best.
Hair: bars and wood instead of bottles
All-Natural Shampoo Bar – $14.99. One solid bar replaces a plastic shampoo bottle. The listing describes it as sulfate-, silicone- and paraben-free with essential oils and no added fragrance. Lather it in your hands or directly on wet hair, and keep it dry between washes so it lasts longer.
Bamboo Hair Comb – $9.99. A smooth, sanded bamboo comb for everyday detangling. It works for most hair types and doubles as a beard comb.
Shower and body care
Natural Loofah Sponges, 4 Pack – $8.99. Plant-based loofahs for the shower – or the kitchen sink – instead of plastic mesh puffs and scrubbers.
Natural Bristle Dry Body Brush – $14.99. A body brush with natural bristles for dry brushing and exfoliating before your shower – a small, slow ritual that feels like a spa moment at home.
Handmade Volcanic Mud Soap Bar, 170 g – $15.40. A generous handmade bar with volcanic mud, walnut powder and plant essences for gentle exfoliation. Seven scents, from lavender to green tea – and no pump bottle to throw away.
All-Natural Plastic-Free Deodorant – $14.39. Packaged without plastic and made without aluminum, parabens, phthalates or talc, according to the maker.
Bamboo Fiber Bath Towel, 70 x 140 cm – $25.00. A soft, absorbent, quick-drying towel made of 100% bamboo fiber, in purple, brown or gray. Light enough for the gym, the beach or travel too.
Face and makeup
Reusable Makeup Remover Pads, 12 Pack – $35.99. Use them with your cleanser or toner, toss them in the wash, and reuse – instead of a new pile of disposable cotton rounds every week.
Reusable Silicone Swabs, 2 Pack – $12.79. Soft, flexible swabs for makeup touch-ups and everyday care. Rinse with water and a little soap after each use. Small enough for a travel bag.
Shaving
Double Edge Metal Safety Razor + 10 Blades – $15.32. A metal razor you keep for years; only the thin steel blade gets replaced, instead of a whole plastic cartridge. Tip: let the razor’s weight do the work with short, gentle strokes at about a 30-degree angle.
How to make the switch stick
- Swap as you run out. Finish what you already have – throwing away usable plastic isn’t greener.
- Let natural materials dry. Bamboo, wood, loofah and soap bars last longer when they can air-dry between uses.
- Start with daily items. Toothbrushes, cotton rounds and swabs make the biggest difference because you replace them most often.
