Thanksgiving is the one dinner of the year where the paper napkins, plastic tablecloths and disposable trays pile up fastest. Replaces: plastic placemats and disposable table covers. Four natural jute placemats with a festive design for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners, so the same set works for both.
Not perfect: jute is a rough, natural fibre. It is not wipe-clean like plastic, so brush off crumbs and spot-clean spills. See the placemats →
3. Solid Wood Candlesticks (from $21.99)
Half-handmade wooden candlesticks in three heights: 15.2, 20.3 or 25.4 cm, all 10.2 cm wide. Pick one, or combine all three for a layered centerpiece that stays on the table through December.
Not perfect: wood and open flames need care. Never leave a lit candle unattended, and use candles that fit the holder securely. See the candlesticks →
4. Carved Walnut Wood Coasters ($16.82)
Hand-carved walnut coasters in square and triangle shapes that protect the table from heat and moisture rings. Each one shows its own wood grain.
Not perfect: wood does not like soaking. Wipe the coasters dry instead of putting them in water. See the coasters →
5. Marble and Wood Serving Board (from $84.78)
Replaces: disposable party trays. A marble surface with a wood accent for cheese, bread and appetizers, in a rectangle (30 x 18 cm) or a round (20.2 cm), each 1.4 cm thick.
